New Knowledgebase: Course Reserve

Course Reserves

When a user asks about a book on course reserve: Use Infohawk + to locate. Type in the instructor's last name, course name. the course #, or the book title.

If a book is not on course reserve that should be: Ask Mark for help if he is available. If not, obtain as much information as possible from student [name of course, course #, instructor name] and either send him an email or leave a note on his desk

  • Check out the book if it is on permanent reserve
  • Do not check it out if it is in regular collection until its status is changed to restricted checkout. Mark, Helen, Cassie, or Michelle can help with this. If they are not available, hold on to the book until this can be done (and allow user to use book in reserve collection)
  • If the book is already checkout out to another user, obtain the student's information for follow up when book is obtained
  • If the book is not in our collection, obtain the student's information for follow up when book is obtained

Reserve Checkouts at Closing

Reserve materials with two-hour checkout periods may be kept overnight by a patron if the material is checked out less than two hours before the building closes. The new due date for the material will be the time the building opens the next day – please check the screen to make sure the new due date is reflected on the screen. Make sure the material is de-sensitized before handing the patron the material. Tell the patron they will need to return the book to either the 1st or 3rd floor outdoor drop boxes, before the building opens the next day.

If the material has a sticker on the cover, “Does Not Leave the Building,” then the patron may not leave the building with the material. If a patron checks out the material less than two hours before the building closes, then you will need to manually change the due date to the time the building closes. Do not de-sensitize the material. Tell the patron the material is due back at closing time. The patron may not take the material into the 24-hour study when the rest of the building has closed.
