Study Spaces for Graduate Students

Looking for a quiet space to work?

With help from GSS, the Main Library has created a dedicated study room for Graduate Students. The Graduate Study Room (3132) is at the north end of the third-floor corridor. Any current graduate student with a valid Student ID card can access the room. There is also seating available in the east and west book stacks throughout the fourth and fifth floors of the library.

These designated "quiet study" spaces allow for:

  • Whispered conversations
  • Cell phone texting and computer typing
  • Individual work

Do you get your best work done in silence?

We have a silent study room available on the second floor (2001). Whispering, headphones, or keyboards are not permitted in this space. Phones must be set to silent when you enter.

Options for Group Work

The Main Library has a variety of spaces that allow for group study or collaboration.

Throughout the first floor, there are collaborative workstations, tables, and booths that encourage students to work and learn together. There are also group study rooms that can be reserved by using the touchpads outside of a particular room or through your student Outlook calendar. A tutorial for reserving these spaces using Outlook is available.

Larger instructional spaces in the Learning Commons can be reserved by filling out this Reservation Request Form.

Other options for group study space include a fourth floor room (4041) and 11 cubicles on the second-floor corridor that are available on a first come, first serve basis for UI students.

Group study spaces allow for texting, typing, and talking at reasonable indoor levels.
