What are Course Reserves?

Our Course Reserves are managed through Course Materials+, a software integrated with ICON and InfoHawk+.

Course Materials+ allows you to set aside physical materials for your students for a set loan period. The Main Library offers books, anatomical models, and more that can be set aside in support of your instruction.

Because Course Materials+ is integrated directly into ICON and InfoHawk+, you are able to select and assign digital content for your courses, such as journal articles, book chapters, videos, and more.

It is recommended that you use InfoHawk+ to assign chapters from ebooks and digital journal articles. This gives students more options when reading materials and supports material accessibility, such as accommodating for screen readers or text customization. It also gives the libraries more accurate data usage of that resource, which helps ensure the materials remain available.

How do I assign materials in Course Materials+?

  • First, you want to make sure that Course Materials+ is enabled for your ICON course page.
  • Next, go to InfoHawk+ and sign onto your account

  • Then, search for the resource that you want to assign and click on the three-dot menu at the end of the record. The example below is for an online journal article, but you can also reserve videos, chapters from ebooks, and other materials.

  • Next, click on Course Materials+. You will have the option to save the article to your Favorites or the specific List created for your course. We recommend saving materials directly to your course list.

  • Once you have saved the resource(s) to Course Materials+ and you are ready for the materials to be accessed from your ICON page, be sure to publish the list to the library and to students. This allows the library to get materials available and allows students to access the materials you have assigned to them.
