Humanities & Social Sciences Graduate Student Guide

Library Instructional Services

Our librarians are happy to offer instruction on information literacy, library resources, and more specialized topics in specific disciplines.

Library instruction can look like:

  • Virtual and in-person course visits
  • Assistances and instruction on working with primary source materials
  • Making materials available for students through course reserves
  • Creating subject guides and other asynchronous learning materials

It is recommended that you try to submit your request 3 weeks prior to the date you hope to schedule a library session.

To request instruction, you can fill out the instructional services request form, where you will have the space to describe the type of instruction support you need.

If you are looking for subject-specific instruction, you should contact the subject liaison for your department.

If you are a TA for Rhetoric and are looking to schedule instruction, you need to use the request form created by our Undergraduate Engagement Department.

Other Instruction Requests

If you are looking to schedule a visit to Special Collections or the Iowa Women's Archive for your student sections, you can complete the Special Collections and Archives Service form to make your request.

The Main Library Gallery is also available to your students. If you are interested in having your student sections learn from its current exhibition, you can fill out the Gallery's visit request form to get in-touch with Gallery staff.
