Main Library Service Desk: Alma Hold & Transit

Test

Alma Holds & Transit

Hold

A patron can Request a book that they find using InfoHawk+.  Staff can then send the volume from the owning library to another campus one or an office.

IMPORTANT!  If the book is already checked-out, the requester should use Interlibrary Loan or Uborrow (see Missing Items).

Books held for a patron are kept in order by the first 3 letter's of a patron's last name on the hold shelf.  An e-mail notifies the person when their item is ready to be picked up.  The individual has 10 days to check out the material (5 days for DVDs).  After that, staff return the book to its home library.

When you scan in an item to go on hold:

  • Alma indicates that you should place the item on the hold shelf.
  • A hold slip prints.
  • Fold the slip and place it in the book so that the borrower's name shows.
  • Place the book on the hold shelf by last name.

Even if the book is for a friend or library staff, always place it on the hold shelf.

Office Delivery

If the message "Office Delivery" appears during a return, put the book, along with the slip that has printed, on the Office Delivery shelf in the processing room. The person in charge of mailing will send the material by campus mail to the requester.

Transit

Patrons can return material borrowed from one campus library to another.  Also, a book returned at one library may be sent to another for hold at a patron's request.

When you scan in a book for transit:

  • Alma indicates that the book should be sent to another library.
  • A transit slip prints.
  • Fold the slip and place it in the book so that the destination is visible.
  • Place the book on the brown mail truck in the processing room.
