What is EndNote?
EndNote is reference management software. It is available in a desktop version and in two web-based versions, EndNote Basic and EndNote Online.
Endnote Basic is the free online version that is available to anyone.
EndNote Online is the cloud-based version that comes with a desktop account. It allows EndNote desktop users to access and add references to their account even when they are away from the computer where the EndNote desktop software has been installed.
Although they refer to slightly different versions of the program, the names EndNote Web, EndNote Online, and EndNote Basic are sometimes used interchangeably. Bearing this in mind is helpful when decoding which file type to use for exporting references from some databases.
