Sciences databases without direct export options

A number of sciences databases and search tools do not currently include the capacity to export references directly from them into EndNote.  For these you can either find the reference in another tool such as InfoHawk, Scopus, or Web of Science, and export it from there or try downloading the PDF if it is available, and then upload that PDF into EndNote.

They include but are not restricted to:

How to Add References from PDFs

Article PDFs that you have saved on your computer can be imported individually or as a group. The success of this function depends on EndNote being able to identify the PDFs.

  1. Under the File menu, hover over Import and select File or Folder.

  2. Click Choose to navigate to the PDF or folder of PDFs to import. If you are importing a file, you can choose whether to include subfolders and whether to have EndNote create a Group Set for the import.

  3. Click the dropdown next to Import Option and select PDF. The Duplicates option allows you to designate if EndNote should discard any items that are duplicates of references that are already in your library, import everything, or place duplicates into a Duplicates group that will appear on the left pane of your EndNote library. Click Import. If EndNote cannot determine the citation for a PDF, it will insert the name of the PDF file as the reference title.

  4. For PDFs that do not import correctly, edit the reference manually.

  5. Another option is to delete the incorrect reference, import a citation for the PDF from a database, and then  manually attach the PDF to that reference.
