ISBN: 3318071722Publication Date: 2022Fragility Fracture and Orthogeriatric Nursing by This second edition, in Open Access, aims to provide a comprehensive and practical overview of the knowledge required for the assessment and management of the older adult with or at risk of fragility fracture, with additional focus on those who are frail. It considers this from the perspectives of all the clinical and home care settings in which this group of patients receive care and is relevant to all global locations. The concept of orthogeriatric care is explored in detail. Global estimates suggest that there were 21 million men and 137 million women aged 50 years or more at high fracture risk in 2010. This incidence is expected to double by 2040, with the most significant increase in Asia. Fragility fracture is one of the foremost challenges for health care providers and thehe global demand for nursing care for patients with fragility fractures across the world is immense. Hip fracture is particularly challenging as these significant injuries often occur in frail older people requiring hospitalisation and orthopaedic surgery. Such injuries and associated surgery result in increased frailty, worsening health and wellbeing, pain, disability, reduced quality of life, loss of independence, and decreased life expectancy. Care providers need to understand the experience of fragility fracture from the perspective of patients and families so that direct improvements in care can be based on the perspectives of the users. Expert care of patients following fractures that require hospitalisation and orthopaedic surgery involves skill in the care and treatment of frail older people as we as individuals with an injury and undergoing surgery. Nurses have a significant role in interdisciplinary collaborative care provided through orthogeriatric models of care. There is increasing evidence that such models significantly improve patient outcomes. High quality, evidence-based orthogeriatric care is increasingly shown to havepositive impact on outcomes for recovery, rehabilitation, and secondary prevention of further fracture. This book significantly supports the aims and values of the Fragility Fracture Network and, as such, supports the learning needs of nurses and other allied health professionals which will enable a comprehensive approach to nursing practice in orthogeriatric and fragility fracture care.
ISBN: 9783031334832Publication Date: 2023, 2nd ed.Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Anesthetists: The Evolution of the Global Roles by As the only book of its kind, this publication provides students, clinicians, researchers, ministries of health, and others with a valuable, thorough, and focused understanding of the development of the nurse practitioner (NP) and nurse anesthetist (NA), two advanced practice nursing roles which have improved access to care and healthcare outcomes as bilateral role development has progressed internationally. As the two roles have significant clinical differences, the book will appraise each role separately within two sections utilizing different approaches. After a thorough platform of defining and describing each role, including history and origins, education, practice, regulation, and leadership, the book guides by example, utilizing unique country case studies divided by WHO regions as exemplars for international role development as well as an outlook for the future of advanced practice nursing on the global stage. The book expands on the tenets and principles as outlined in the ICN Guidelines on Advanced Practice Nursing for Nurse Practitioners (2020) and Nurse Anesthetists (2021), providing the reader with an internationally vetted and accepted comprehension of the roles, guiding and inspiring future role development to improve global health care.
ISBN: 9783031207617Publication Date: 2023The Nurses' Guide to Psychotherapy by This book is a guide for nurses who plan to incorporate psychotherapy into their field of work. Mental illness continues to be on the rise with increases in anxiety disorders, suicidality, and depression among others. Psychotherapy is a well researched intervention that helps individuals to improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Recently in Ontario, Canada the proclamation of the controlled act of psychotherapy enabled certain members of six professional colleges, including Registered Nurses, to initiate and implement this controlled act. Registered Nurses exist in every nook and cranny across the world, from urban to rural and remote regions and can provide a far reach and excellent care, bridging the gaps for those needing access to psychotherapy services. Nurses have the skill, ability, legislative and regulatory rights to initiate the controlled act of psychotherapy. Nurses can provide psychotherapy treatment and interventions to address the growing needs of the population who experience mental distress. This book is unique in that the target audience is not only the experienced or expert nurse but was also created for nurses looking to shift the primary focus of their career to psychotherapy, for undergraduate student nurses, and for newly graduated nurses pursuing psychotherapy as part of their field of work. This book will build upon the experiences of the nurse client relationship that has always been foundational to nursing and will discuss nurses clinical expertise and knowledge in relation to a holistic approach to care when implementing psychotherapy interventions.
