Best and Safe Practices in Different Contexts of Neonatal Care by The field of neonatal care has been a long-standing concern within the broader field of child health, given the crucial role the neonatal stage plays in the development of individuals. While many of the most effective practices in neonatal care have been widely disseminated across maternal and childcare units globally, cultural and social differences, as well as the availability of resources, necessitate the adaptation of these practices to the specific contexts of each place. This book discusses a range of crucial topics related to neonatal care over two sections. It includes ten chapters that address pertinent issues in neonatal care. The book's objective is to contribute to the clinical work of health teams in neonatal units by sharing content and lessons for efficient and safe care, both from the global context of the configuration of the therapeutic environment to specific topics of usual care. The chapters have been developed by specialists in neonatology from different countries, and through them, they hope to share part of their experience.

This book brings together a blend of health and social care professionals, experts by experience and the charity third sector. All have expertise in caring for and supporting perinatal women with issues that may affect their health and the type of care they require. Through our collective writing, we provide a paradigm for partnership working andhope to have strengthened voices by highlighting women's experiences and the importance of third sector partnerships, working in tandem with women who are experts by experiences and bringing health professionals together. In combination with recommendations from specialists in the field, we have offered a unique mix of compassion and evidence-based guidance. From substance abuse, domestic violence and HIV to experiences of Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities, homelessness, women seeking asylum and women in prison, we have addressed a range of current issues and provided essential information and opportunities to reflect. Each chapter invites the reader to step into the shoes of the perinatal woman. Through our collective writing, we provide a paradigm for partnership working and hope to have strengthened voices by highlighting diverse experiences. We have looked at how using a trauma informed approach can be applied universally to care for all women and learn from charities such as Birth Companions, the 4M project and the Salamander Trust, how different approaches may directly impact women's care in a positive and holistic way. An overarching aim of our book has been to find ways to deliver multi-agency continuity of care, whilst being aware of bias, professional responsibilities and an understanding how we can take a holistic approach - crucial for attaining excellence in 21st century maternity care provision.

Controlling and Preventing Errors and Pitfalls in Neonatal Care Delivery by The aim of this book is to inform nurses about the most common and the more serious errors made in caring for neonatal patients. Nurses play the largest role in patient care and their overwhelming workload may sometimes lead to errors that are, in some cases, irreversible or even fatal, putting a great deal of responsibility on nurses to avoid errors. And amongst patients that nurses care for, the most vulnerable of these are neonates. This book covers learnings about the uniqueness of neonatal patients and common conditions that are seen with patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Factors that are predisposing and contributing factors for nursing errors are reviewed. The types of errors, consequences, detection, and monitoring for nursing errors are included. The book describes how errors can be avoided with necessary precautions, and managed appropriately based on current evidence-based practice. Recommendations for further study are also provided. This resource can be a useful tool for professional nurses, as well as nurse educators, leaders, and mentors to educate and guide their students and novice nurses. .

Perinatology: Evidence-Based Best Practices in Perinatal Medicine by This book presents the latest evidence-based guidelines for perinatal management and is designed to help obstetricians and neonatologists minimize complications and offer patients the best possible care.Since 1960, there has been a significant increase in basic and clinical investigations on normal and pathological pregnancy in the developed world. This has provided insights into the physiopathology of pregnant women, fetuses and newborns and led to the development of new technologies, bringing about a new medical subspecialty: perinatal medicine. The book is divided into eight main sections: The first examines basic periconceptional care and discusses the ethical aspects of perinatology. The next section focuses on prenatal considerations, such as the nutritional aspects of gestation and puerperium, physical exercise during pregnancy, routine laboratory tests, prenatal care of multiple gestations and the role of the neonatologist in prenatal care. The third and fourth sections then explore fetal evaluation, and clinical intercurrences in pregnancy, respectively. The next section addresses pregnancy complications: prevention, diagnosis and management. The sixth section covers the basic aspects of congenital infections and the seventh examines labor and delivery aspects. Lastly, the final section includes chapters on neonatal assistance.Written by leading experts in obstetrics, neonatology, and perinatology, this thoroughly updated, comprehensive resource reflects the latest information in all areas, including genetics and imaging.
