Technology Available at the Main Library: One Button Studio

Main Library One Button Studio 

The Main Library has a One Button Studio (OBS) on the first floor, past the New Books and The Perch. Basic information about how to get started is provided below. Visit www.lib.uiowa.edu/onebuttonstudio for more information.

Staff at the Service Desk can assist you with:

  • Opening the room upon your arrival.
  • Providing a USB drive if you forgot yours.
  • Looking at the room schedule if someone hasn't shown up for their assigned reservation time.
  • Opening the room if you locked yourself out and left your stuff in the OBS.
  • Getting you started if it's your first time using the OBS.

Please leave the room better than you found it.

How to Make a Recording with the One Button Studio

To make a recording:

Step 1: Insert your USB drive into the USB puck that is located on the table.

Step 2: The lights and camera will turn on on.

Step 3: Hit the button to start recording.

Step 4: Hit the button again to finish recording.

Step 5: Wait a few seconds for the recording to save to your USB drive.

Step 6: Be SURE to take your USB with you when you leave!

The One Button Studio is located on the first floor of the Main Library, past the New Books area and The Perch.

Make an instant reservation on the tablet next to the door if it is green, which means the room is available.

If the tablet is red, it has already been reserved. If someone didn't show up for their reservation you may ask about using the room at the Service Desk.

There's a reminder on the door that you'll need to have a USB with you to use the One Button Studio. If you forgot one, ask at the Service Desk.

You can arrange what you need in front of the camera (chairs, podium, etc.).

Use the tablet and the USB puck to get started.

Put your USB in the little "puck" that is on the table. The screen next to it will then display a button. Push it to start recording, and push it again to stop recording. Remember to take your USB with you when you go.

Reserving the One Button Studio at Main Library

Reserving the One Button Studio

Reserve the Main Library’s One Button Studio ONLINE

  • Log on with your HAWKID and PASSWORD via office365.uiowa.edu.
  • Click on the CALENDAR ICON (on the upper right side of the window) and choose NEW
  • Enter reservation information in the EVENT field. You may also add names in the ATTENDEES field (optional).
  • Set the time and date of your reservation (make sure to include length of meeting).
  • Click ADD ROOM and choose LIB RESOURCES. Select ERM-LIB-OBS.
    If ERM-LIB-OBS is not listed the studio is already reserved. Adjust the time and date of the reservation and try again.
  • Make sure the Mark as Private radio box is not marked.
  • Double check the attendee list, start time and length, and the chosen room to ensure they are correct. Then select Send and wait for room verification via email. (All recurring appointments will be automatically declined.) Please check verification email to ensure reservation has been accepted.
  • Please stop by the Main Library Service Desk when you arrive and ask the staff to unlock the One Button Studio for you.

Reserve the Main Library’s One Button Studio IN PERSON

  • If the light on the panel is green, the One Button Studio is AVAILABLE now. Press Reserve Now to book the room for the next 120 minutes or the start of the next reservation. Your reservation will appear on the screen.
  • If the light on the panel is red, the One Button Studio is NOT AVAILABLE.
  • If the One Button Studio is not in use 10 minutes into the reserved period, it may be used by another group for the duration of the reserved period.
