Technology Available at the Main Library: How to Check Out a Laptop
3-Day Laptop Checkout
Any UIowa student can checkout a laptop for a 3-day loan.
- Ask for a laptop at the Main Library Service Desk. It will come with a case and charger.
- Login to the laptop before you leave campus.
- Return it back to the Main Library Service Desk when you're finished by handing the laptop (including the laptop case and charger) directly to a staff member.
- If you need more than 3 days, please return the laptop and check out another one.
- Please save your documents to either a flash drive, email, or OneDrive.
Our laptops are popular and are checked out on a first come, first served basis, and please note:
- Please return laptops directly to the Service Desk.
- If the laptop is not returned after three days, then a $1,150.00 replacement charge will be assessed and forwarded to your account at the University Business Office (U-Bill).
- If the laptop is returned, the $1,150 replacement fee will be refunded to your account
21-Day Laptop Checkout
Any UIowa student can reserve & checkout a laptop for 21 days (and 1-week renewal).
Extended loan laptops have to be requested in advance. Here's how:
Step 1: Search InfoHawk+ for 'Main extended loan laptop'.
Step 2: Sign in to InfoHawk+.
Step 3: Use the Request feature.
Step 4: Scroll through the list of laptops until you find one that has the status: 'Item in place (0 requests)'.
An email notice will be sent when the laptop is ready to be picked up at the Main Library Service Desk. The laptop, case, and charger must be returned directly to this desk when due. Please note:
- Login to the laptop before you leave campus.
- Twenty-one day laptop loans may be renewed for up to one additional week (max. 28 days total) by going to My Library --> Check My Account. Return the laptop and reserve a new one if additional time is needed.
- Please save your documents to either a flash drive, email, or OneDrive. Make sure to log out of your account before returning the laptop.
- Return the laptop directly to the Service Desk.
- If the laptop is not returned, then a $1,150.00 replacement charge will be assessed and forwarded to your account at the University Business Office (U-Bill).
- If the laptop is returned, the $1,150 replacement fee will be refunded to your account.
