Academic & Professional Record (APR): Books and Book Chapters

Guide to adding publications to the APR

Starting with books and book chapters

Before entering records for books or book chapters into the APR, we recommend staff receive in-person training from Library staff.

Email lib-apr@uiowa.edu to request training.

Books and Book Chapters

Approximately 30 percent of books or book chapters can be found by using Crossref direct import.

Make sure the author's name is correct

Change the Publication Date dropdown to Title and fill in the beginning of the title

undefined

Click on Search Crossref

If Crossref has results, you will see a screen that looks like this

undefined

If you click on the title, you will see more information that can help you verify if the information is correct

undefined

If you find the correct record, click the check box on the right and then Continue

Review and Finish Import

Look at the individual record for Crossref imports to make sure it is accurate.  Crossref often leaves off information.

  • check contribution type
  • add city and state if necessary
  • add country if necessary
  • add edition information if 2nd edition or higher
  • make sure author's names are in the right order
  • add editor's names if necessary
