University of Iowa Health Care is a large, complex organization comprised of over 17,000 faculty, staff and trainees, with broad operational aims including patient care, research, education and related business functions. UI Health Care Human Resources boasts a large community of talented HR professionals across the enterprise who deliver both strategic and operational HR programs and services. Learn from top-notch HR leaders in a mission-driven organization committed to improving the health and well-being of Iowans and their communities.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Interns will be assigned to a supervisor and given specific projects within their areas to gain hands-on experience related to human resources. Best efforts will be made to align projects with areas of interest. By introducing students to the important work we do at UI Health Care, we aim to:

  • Encourage exploration of careers in human resources by exposing students to the array of work available within human resources in a dynamic, health care environment
  • Apply knowledge acquired in the classroom to real-world situations
  • Gain experience and skills to prepare for a successful career in human resources
  • Complete a project with a defined scope as determined with the supervisor, and present to key stakeholders

SCHEDULE & REQUIREMENTS

The internship program will run for approximately 10 weeks, from Tuesday, May 27 through Friday, August 1. Interns will earn $16/hour and are expected to work 32-40 hours per week, according to a schedule determined by the intern and supervisor. Outside commitments such as summer courses may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a current University of Iowa student with a strong interest in human resources. Preference will be given to current sophomores, juniors, and first-semester seniors; May graduates may also be considered. Prefer that students have completed an Employment Law course prior to the internship.
