This corn monument pays homage to the south endzone of Kinnick Stadium. The design features a faux brick façade mimicking Kinnick Stadium, including the stadium arches and statue of Nile Kinnick. Enhanced lighting illuminates the state of Iowa outline and “IOWA” lettering, making the monument a spectacle even after dark. The scoreboard design displays “Iowa 1,000,000, Northwestern 0,” a nod to the “Hawks by a Million” tagline that has been popularized by The Washed Up Walkons Podcast when it was used as a game "prediction" in a 2018 segment.

The 2022 monument draws influence from the Park Road Bridge on Dubuque Street which connects the University to the greater Iowa City area. The goal of this monument was to symbolize this connection between the University population and the community of Iowa City as each group benefits from the other creating a world-class environment for students and a great place to live.

The University of Iowa ASCE Student Chapter selected the obelisk shape to honor the Corn Monument’s origins, as it featured prominently in early designs. With Homecoming 2025 arriving early in the academic year, students had just four weeks to complete the structure. Despite the tight timeline, the design captures the spirit of the tradition and showcases what’s possible through collaboration.
Additionally, 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of "The Iowa Fight Song." Written and composed in 1950 by Iowa native Meredith Willson - best known for The Music Man and the holiday classic "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas."
THE IOWA FIGHT SONG
Words and Music by Meredith Willson.
The word is "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT
for Iowa,"
Let ev'ry loyal Iowan sing.
The word is "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT
for Iowa,"
Until the walls and rafters ring
(GO HAWKS!)
Come on and CHEER, CHEER, CHEER
for Iowa.
Come on and cheer until you hear the final gun.
The word is "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT
for Iowa,
Until the game is won."
