Business Library Course Reserves: For Instructors

Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 Reserves

Due to the pandemic, the Business Library encourages electronic reserves.  Contact a librarian to see if the Business Library can purchase an e-book, which you can then link to your course page.  Library staff will also scan chapters from books already in UI Libraries collections—or from personal copies—for upload to ICON.

Place Material on Reserve

To learn more about reserves, read Services and Polices (next section).

E-mail or print out the following information.  If you are placing a personal copy on reserve—or wish to have chapters from a personal copy scanned—you should bring the material to the Business Library service desk.

Services and Policies

The Business Library:

  • Places UI Library books on reserve.
  • Places personal copies on reserve.
  • Scans book chapters for upload to ICON.
  • Acquires some texts automatically through the Textbook Affordability Program.
  • May purchase e-books for a course.*

*Contact a librarian.

Reserve Policies

  • The standard loan period is 2 hours, although 1-day and 3-day loans are available.
  • Since some courses use the same material over multiple semesters, items are left on reserve for at least a full year.
  • Personal items may be damaged by heavy use, are stolen occasionally, or may not be returned by a borrower. The Libraries cannot replace missing or damaged personal material.

It is the instructor's responsibility to find out if materials fall within the "fair use" definition for teaching:

Online Journal Articles

Thousands of full-text articles are available to you and your students:

  1. Find journal articles through InfoHawk+ or use these business databases.
  2. Copy the article's persistent link.
  3. Place the persistent link in ICON.

Note: the Harvard Business Review imposes numerous restrictions on linking to its articles.  Contact a librarian for options.

Streaming Video

The UI Libraries provide access to streaming videos you can use in your course:
