Infohawk+ Profile

What will I find using InfoHawk+?

  Stuff on the shelf

The Library Catalog, or as it's called here at Iowa, Infohawk+, is the resource you should use to find books, scores, and recordings that are housed in the Rita Benton Music Library and in the University Libraries as a whole.

In order to limit your search to items in the RBML's collection, select "Library Catalogs" from the dropdown menu next to the search box. Also look for the left menu facet "Available in the Library", which should only return items that are shelved in the stacks (vs. those located online).

  Score(s)!

Throughout your studies here at Iowa, you're going to need music scores for your lessons, chamber groups, and for other classes.

While you'll certainly want to build a music library of your own as your musical career progresses, the RBML is your #1 local resource for practice, performance and study scores.

When you borrow music from the Library, PLEASE keep in mind that you do not own the score, and therefore, you should not make permanent markings on the page.

  CDs and DVDs

All recordings at the RBML are stored in closed stacks, which means you won't be able to browse the collection to find what you want. You'll need to use Infohawk to search for recordings.

When you find something you want, write down the call number, bring it to the Service Desk, and we'll pull it for you.

We get a lot of requests from patrons to browse the CDs and DVDs. However, we don't shelve the recordings by their content, so you won't find all the operas together or all the solo cello music on the same shelf. We organize recordings by when they get added to the collection, which is a common practice because it's often tricky to place a recording in just one generic category.

  Iowa Collections

Items in the Iowa Digital Library and institutional repository Iowa Research Online are all findable in InfoHawk+. This includes School of Music programs and streaming audio, Iowa dissertations and theses, photos, and other documents.
