Finding Ads in Magazines
The University of Iowa Libraries has a variety of popular press magazines that you can utilize. They are pretty easy to find if you follow these tips.
Tips:
- The easiest resource to look at online - and place to physically browse current issues - is The Perch. This space is located on the 1st Floor of Main Library between the reference alcove and the New Book area. There is an online guide for the magazine holdings in The Perch so you can browse titles at your convenience!
- Looking to see how the article actually appeared in the magazine? Select "Full Text - PDF" - if it is available. It won't always be an option but use it if you can. Some magazines, like the New Yorker and Smithsonian, allow for a full browse of the issues.
- Found a print ad and wondering what to do next? The advertisement will almost never show the name of the company that created the ad. To find that, Google (or your search engine of choice), will be the best place to start. Then, you can search for information on the company through the resources listed in the "Finding Advertisements Online" box above.
