These collections may be part of a university, government agency, museum, or stand as a private entity. Information professionals in this field can have a variety of titles, such as archivist or collections manager. Because of the wide range of types of archives and special collections, professionals in this field can gain experience working with a variety of materials. Professionals in this field should understand archival organizational principles and know best practices for safe storage of collections materials. This is a good career path for people with a strong interest in history. "

Primary Source, Archive, and Finding Aid Databases

The following is a selected list of primary source collections. Some collections are freely available online. Resources marked with a padlock icon are available freely for UI students, faculty, and staff through UI Libraries' subscriptions. If you are off-campus you may be prompted to log-in using your HawkID and password through our UI Libraries' proxy server to access UI Libraries materials.
