ICON links to library resources: Link your students to the Library

Page to describe how to link to electronic library materials, including the off-campus access

Top Five Ways to Link Your Students to the Library

  1. Use Course Materials+ in ICON for course reserve materials (so students never have to leave ICON to do the readings for class)
  2. Link directly to Library Databases
(so students will start their searches there)
Are you tired of your students “Googling” their way through research projects? Would you like your students to search specific library databases instead? Give them direct links to the databases you know and trust. It’s easy!
  3. Link directly to items in Library Databases & InfoHawk+ (so students won't spend time hunting and have more time to read)
  4. Use a subject, course, or assignment Guide
(so our library website doesn't overwhelm students with so many options)
Don’t have time to bring your class to the library for a visit, or are your students telling you they already know how to use the library? We can still provide pointers and short-cuts through a custom-made research guide. See examples here: https://guides.lib.uiowa.edu.
Contact your librarian if you would like a specialized guide created for your class or assignment.
  5. Research Consultations (so students have the individual research help they may need)
If you are assigning a project that has a library research component, please let your students know that they can work directly with a librarian to receive assistance. It's always a good idea to give your librarian a heads up that a class of students might be heading their way, and if you think a large percentage of your students will need help, perhaps scheduling a library instruction session would be more efficient for everyone involved. Talk with you librarian to find out what will work best for you and your students.
