Tips for the Research Process

  • If you are new to an industry or market, start with industry reports that focus on the national or global environment. These reports focus on the "big picture" in which a business operates. The reports offer info on industry trends, outlook, revenues and more.
**Useful sources include IBISWorld, Mintel, and Market Research Academic (see the industry and Market tab on this guide)

  • Great sources for consumer behavior information are Mintel and Marketresearch Academic. These sites offer info at the global or national level If you need consumer preference info at a local level try SimplyAnalytics(see local info tab on this guide)

  • If you would like to find a list of companies in an industry and filter to the state, city or country level, two great sources are Lexis Nexis Academic and Simply Map --which includes this info in the Points feature.
