Search Tips

To ensure you are getting the best possible results from your research, follow these guidelines: 

  • Write down every database you use (and if it was helpful)
  • Write down every search term you use (and if you found anything)
  • Use boolean operators, such as the words "and," "or," and "not" 
  • Use parentheses around key phrases, like "Waverley and Confederacy"
  • Substitute asterisks (wildcards) as a placeholder for dates. For example, "181*"
  • Substitute asterisks (wildcards) as a placeholder for word truncations. See "romantic*"
