Dance Theses: a guide

How to Submit your Project
1

Set up a consultation with the Music Librarian in the first two weeks of the semester when you plan to defend. You will receive access to a OneDrive* folder after your consultation.

2

Submit your project to your thesis committee AND to the Music Library prior to defense using OneDrive*. The Music Library needs to extract your track listing from the document at this time.

3

You will receive an email from the Music Library with a list of Digital Object Identifiers, or DOIs**, for each track of your video recording from the Libraries.

4

In your document, provide the DOIs for each track as part of the track listing. There is a template available to help you create your track list, with DOIs, here.

5

As soon as you have the final versions of your video files, submit them to the Music Library using OneDrive*.

6

Submit a pdf of your project document to ProQuest/Graduate College as your final deposit. You will NOT submit video files to the Graduate College.

Learn More about this process

*What is OneDrive?

OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud storage product, comparable to iCloud, Dropbox, Amazon Cloud, and other online storage services. The Library is using OneDrive for this project because it is free to all University of Iowa students, can store large files, and is relatively easy to use.

**What is a Digital Object Identifier, or DOI?

Digital object identifiers are a tool for tagging digital objects with a stable, permanent address. Somewhat like an ISBNs for books or UPCs for commercial products, if a person were to search for an object by its DOI, it would lead them to that object regardless of changes or updates to its online location. DOIs are more stable than permanent or durable URLs, which is why each audio track produced for the recording project will be tagged with one.
