These materials are housed in boxes that are stored with the Leigh Hunt Collection
and assigned the call number: Hunt 828 H941Dpo.

An collection of ephemera of materials relating to Leigh Hunt donated by Kenneth G. Brooks is described below.

1. Leigh Hunt, Aged 17. Two copies of same image, an oval about 3 by 3 3/4ths inches: 1. sepia-toned photograph with caption which reads, “From a miniature by R. Bowyer.” 2. lithographic print (black and white) with caption which reads, “From a pencil sketch by Daniel Madise, R.A.”

2. Photocopy of 10/4/84 letter from Richard H.E. Russell to Frank Paluka enclosing 3 color photographs: photo of the Williams portrait, photo of the Hayter(?) portrait, and photo of The Silver Cup. 10/4/84. Reproductions and negatives available for Williams and Hayter photos.

3. Photograph (black and white) of an oval painting of Leigh Hunt; about 2 1/4 x 3 inches.

4. Leigh Hunt, with top hand and gloves, standing; signed “A. Croquis, del.” in lower right corner. Reproductions available.

27. Leigh Hunt’s monument in Kensal Green Cemetary, London. Seven photographs (black and white) taken from different positions and dated July 8, 1925 on verso. About 3 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches. Reproductions available.

28. Desmond Leigh-Hunt with his wife and relatives at Leigh Hunt’s grave in 1954. Color photograph, 4 x 6 inches. Cover letter dated 22 June 1984 from Desmond Leigh-Hunt which indentifies individuals pictured and mentions family tree.

29. Leigh Hunt’s birthplace, Eagle Hall, Southgate. Picture postcard (black and white), about 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. Other views of Eagle Hall can be found in William Howitt, Homes and Haunts of the Most Eminent British Poets (1847), volume 2 page 396, and Nicholas Roe, Fiery Heart (2005).

30. Leigh Hunt’s house in Upper Cheyne Row #22 (formerly row #4). Photograph (black and white) taken about July 7, 1925. About 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. Negative available.

33. Grammar school at Christ’s Hospital. Hand-colored engraving, about 5 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches. With 1931 letter from Fredk. B. Daniell & Son, London, offering Brewer the architect’s (John Shaw, Jr.) drawing, signed, and referring to an enclosed photograph (here present – black and white, about 10 x inches) which shows the Grammar, Mathematical and Drawing Schools, with dormitories over, as added in 1832. A pencil note on the letter suggests Brewer declined the offer (perhaps because he already owned this engraving). Black & white reproduction available.

34. “#13 Mortimer Terrace, Kentishtown. From L.A. Holman.” Photograph (black and white), about 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.

35. “Overlooking a city” (as captioned in pencil on our folder). Engraving or lithograph, about 4 x 7 1/2 inches. View of lake or sea in background, and palm trees, suggests tropical or Mediterranean location.

36. “Street Scene” (as captioned in pencil on our folder). Two photographs (black and white) of a fore-edge painting which appears to be captioned “Duke of Parma”. About 7 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches.

37. Black and white photographic negative captioned “House, 1865.”

38. Oxford. Plate and engraving by Wm & Jn Walker from an original drawing by Days. Publish’d Feb. 1, 1792, by J. Walker, No. 16 Rosemans Street, London. Much later offset reproduction, about 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.

39. Silhouette of Keats by Mrs. Leigh Hunt. Newspaper clipping, image said to be from a photograph in possession of Louis A. Holman. about 4 x 4 1/2 inches.

42. “Christmas Greeting From Ellen Calder Keeler.” Probably the proof of an engraving intended for the cover of a Christmas card. About 3 x 4 inches.

43. “Ex Libris Louise E. Winterburn.” Bookplate.

44. “Frae the books o’ Horace E. Macdonald.” Bookplate.

45. “Christmas Greeting from Blackwell’s, 1975.” Greeting card which reproduces Edward Bawden’s Oxford Mural. The mural includes Shelley and Leigh Hunt’s son.

46. A four stanza poem which begins: “Did ever Sorrow come alone / never, never…” signed “C.F.W. / 1821.” Affixed to the (pinkish) sheet (about 8 x 14 inches) on which the poem is written is a water color drawing or lithograph (about 3 x 3 3/4 inches) which appears to be signed (on the text sheet) “R. Hunt”.

47. Short biographical note in a 19th century copperplate hand, about 9 x 12 inches.

48. Address portion of an envelope pasted to a larger sheet, with pencil note, “not Hunt as claimed.”

49. Hunt family tree, offset printed. About 9 x 4 1/2 inches on a larger sheet. Date unknown. Reproductions available.

50. Luther Brewer’s bookplate, designed by Sidney L. Smith. Etcher’s trial proof.
