Circulation: Missing Items

Regular Loan Books

Most regular-loan books in the Business Library's collection are stored an offsite facility, the Annex.  Patrons can request them using InfoHawk+.  Staff can also request the books with Alma (see Alma User Request).

Staff may occasionally discover Alma records that show "missing" or "lost" (lost = not returned by the borrower).  Annex staff deal with these.

Alternatives to missing books are:

  • E-books (searchable on InfoHawk+ and Alma)
  • Copies at other campus libraries
  • Interlibrary Loan (see below)

Service-Desk Material

Journals and Newspapers

If a patron cannot find a particular journal or newspaper, an online copy may be available.  Search InfoHawk+ or direct the person to your supervisor.

Course Reserves, Permanent Reserves, etc.

If you cannot locate an item normally shelved behind the desk—and Alma shows that it is not on loan—contact your supervisor!  Staff should always know where the material is or who has it.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan provides readers with two ways to borrow items that the University Libraries do not own.  The Interlibrary Loan department at the Main Library searches material at U.S. or international institutions.  Library staff arrange shipping, and the requester can pick up the item at any campus library.
