LinkedIn Profiles for Health Professionals: Home

Create a professional profile to tell your story and help expand your professional network.

What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a social networking site focused on professional relationships.  LinkedIn helps you find professional colleagues, interact with other professionals, and promote your expertise, experience, and education.  LinkedIn may be used to find employment as well.

Getting Started

LinkedIn profiles display to more users when they are more complete.
If you want to increase your reach with LinkedIn, or are looking for employment, make sure to have what LinkedIn calls an All-star profile.

All-star profiles contain:

  • Profile Photo
  • Location
  • Industry
  • Education
  • Position
  • Skills
  • Summary

For more information or to check your profile level, see LinkedIn's instructions.

Things to consider

LinkedIn information will appear on web search engine results, but this may take a few months.

Carefully consider which information you want to make public to any web user, anywhere.  You can manage your public settings.

Consider getting a custom, personal URL that you can share with others or put on your resume or CV.

The free version of LinkedIn does not have as many features of the paid/premium version.

LinkedIn Learning online courses come with a premium subscription, but all University of Iowa affiliates have access to LinkedIn Learning for free.
