Library Orientation for Social Work: Finding Books

  • Use the library catalog to find books and journls the library owns. Use a Research Database to find individual articles on your topic.
  • The library has material in many formats: Print and electronic books, government publications and reports, journals, theses, and more.
  • Know when to use the UI library and when to use your local public library

UI Library Catalog

Infohawk+, the UI Libraries search interface, includes the books, movies and other material in the UI Libraries as well as journal articles from many of our databases. While that seems convenient, I think you are better off using Infohawk+ for books but bypassing it and going directly to research databases for journal articles. Use the tutorials in this tab to learn how to find and request books. Use the Finding Journal Articles tab for information on finding research articles.
