UBorrow: How to Use UBorrow

Search for over 90 million books from the catalogs of the CIC libraries and the Center for Research Libraries.

Using UBorrow in 3 Steps

1. Log in to the ILL system with your HawkID and password:  ILL

2. Search UBorrow and find the item you want to borrow.

3. Click on the "Get It!" link within the record.

2 ways to search UBorrow

1. Visit the UBorrow catalog directly.

2. Use the searchbox on the InfoHawk +.

Check Request Status

Though UBorrow is a separate service, you may check the status of your UBorrow requests at any time by logging into Interlibrary Loan.

Pick Up Requests

You will receive an email notification when your request is available for pick-up.

Requests are sent to the delivery location you have selected in your Interlibrary Loan account.

To change your selected delivery location, log in to Interlibrary Loan and click to "Change User Information" in the bottom left.

Renew UBorrow Items

You may borrow print books received via UBorrow for an initial loan period of 12 weeks.

If you want to renew a book received via UBorrow for an additional 4 weeks, you may do so by logging into Interlibrary Loan.

Available at the University of Iowa

If the item is available at the University of Iowa Libraries, you won't be able to request it via UBorrow.

Instead, UBorrow will display the location and call number of the item and provide a link to Smart Search.

Use this information to locate the item and retrieve it from the University of Iowa Libraries location.

Unavailable via UBorrow

"Not available via UBorrow" means that neither the University of Iowa Libraries nor any of the other UBorrow libraries has an available copy.

If an item is unavailable via UBorrow, you may still request the item via Interlibrary Loan directly from the UBorrow search results screen by clicking on "Request ILL."
