For Rhetoric Instructors

Collaborate with a Librarian

What do developing a research topic, locating and evaluating sources, formatting a bibliography, and understanding algorithmic bias in Google search results have in common? They are all aspects of information literacy, and information literacy is what librarians do. (See the 'Information Literacy' pages on this guide for more information).

Working with a librarian can help you integrate information literacy concepts into your assignments or throughout your course curriculum. Librarians are available to consult with you on a variety of topics to support your teaching, and to support your own research needs and interests.

We can help with:

  • information literacy instruction - both inside and outside the classroom
  • assignment design - to creatively problem-solve with you on how to address information challenges faced by your students
  • recommended resources (library, popular, online) to complement your assignment - often taking the shape of an online guide that can be integrated into your course's web presence
    • Here's a link to the general Rhetoric Guide for Students. Consider adding this to your ICON site and/or putting a link to this  on your syllabus.

Want to schedule a library instruction session for your Rhetoric section(s)? Want assistance integrating library resources into your course ICON website? Please fill out the Rhetoric Library Instruction Request form.

Want more information, have questions about assignment design, or want to share other ideas for collaboration? Let your new library liaison, Andrea Anderson, know.

Testimonial

The librarians at The University of Iowa Libraries are sharp, savvy, and fun to work with. I found collaborating with them not only painless but pleasant and instructive. Their expertise helped me both in my teaching and my graduate student research. Go see the librarians!
