In January 1973, at the age of 72, Irving Weber (1900-1997) began writing articles on local history for the Iowa City Press-Citizen. Over the next 25 years the paper published 850 of his weekly columns. Half of the columns were reprinted in eight volumes titled Irving Weber's Iowa City, published by the Iowa City Lions Club. The Club holds copyright to the eight volumes and has donated approximately $80,000 in proceeds to many public service efforts.
Through the cooperation of the Iowa City Host Noon Lions Club, the Iowa City Public Library, and Lolly Parker Eggers, author of the 2006 biography Iowa City's Irving Weber, it has been possible to provide in this digital collection the complete set of Weber's newspaper columns, either in their original formats or as reprinted in the books.
The Iowa Digital Library features more than a million digital objects created from the holdings of the University of Iowa Libraries and its campus partners. Included are illuminated manuscripts, historic maps, fine art, historic newspapers, scholarly works, and more. Digital collections are coordinated by Digital Research & Publishing.
