UI Libraries strives to provide the same level of service to UI students both on and away from campus. Use these methods to access books, journal articles and other library resources away from Iowa City.

Distance Education Librarian Dan Gall is normally available during Central Time business hours and will respond as soon as possible to any messages.

Articles may be available electronically if the copyright holder has granted permission for electronic access.

• Use the UIlink button in any University of Iowa database to check for online availability.
• If the article is not available online, the Infolink button in the database you search will give you an option to request the article through the Document Delivery Service. See Registering for Document Delivery below.
• In most cases, we will scan articles and notify you by email when they are available in the system.

• Use the Sign in to View Request Options link in the record for any book you want from our InfoHawk+ catalog system.
• The Request PDF of Book Chapter will let you ask for a specific chapter or set of pages. Library staff will scan what you want from the print book and deliver it to you online as a pdf file.
• To request the entire physical book, use the Request Physical Item link and choose Home Delivery. Only one line is available to enter the shipping address - please separate parts of the address with commas.

The University of Iowa uses two related systems to borrow books from other libraries for you. Both are available at https://www.lib.uiowa.edu/services/illdd/

• UBorrow connects the collections of all Big Ten Academic Alliance libraries and allows you to borrow books from any of them. If your book is not available through UBorrow, the staff of the Interlibrary loan department will look for your book from other libraries.
• While we can often get books for you from other libraries within days, we do not control how quickly libraries respond or how widely available your book is. It may take some time to get the book you want.

Individual articles and individual chapters of books can be scanned and delivered through our secure electronic delivery system.

1. Sign in to the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery system using your HawkID and password.
2. The first time you sign in, you will be asked to create an account including your preferred shipping address and password known only to you.
3. The registration form asks for basic information, but there are two questions that might not be obvious for remote students. Regardless of whether you are an undergraduate, graduate student, staff or something else, choose Distance Education Program as your Status. Similarly, choose Distance Ed or Post-Comp as your Pick-up library.
