RefWorks is called a bibliographic citation management tool. It keeps track of books and journal articles you find interesting and may need to call up to create your bibliography or refer back to for further study. You can set up an account while you are at the University of Iowa, or perhaps your home institution makes this available, too. Many electronic databases, including Smart Search, know provide easy to use links to export your citations to tools like RefWorks (End Note is a comparable product). A tool like this can make life a lot easier when it comes to keeping track of what you're using and need to cite.
