Accessing Hardin Library Resources: Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery

Contains information on how to access the Hardin Library's print and online materials

Note

Online access to Hardin Library resources and services is limited to current University of Iowa faculty/staff/students.  Members of the public are welcome to use the library's print and electronic resources from within the library.

Placing an Interlibrary Loan Request

If the library does not own a resource (book, journal, etc.) that you need, you can place an interlibrary loan request and we will request a copy from another library.  Once they arrive, books can be picked up at the library and articles can be downloaded from the interlibrary loan system.

If the library owns a book or journal in print, but not electronically, you can place a document delivery request and the journal article or book chapter (but not entire book) will be scanned and you will be emailed a link to download the article from the interlibrary loan system.

Both interlibrary loan and document delivery are free services.  Journal articles and scanned book chapters typically arrive within 3-5 days.  Full books typically arrive within 1-3 weeks.

There are two ways that you can request an interlibrary loan or document delivery.

1. Request an interlibrary loan/document delivery using InfoLink from within a database (more information on InfoLink)

If the library does not own the article or only has a print subscription, InfoLink will show the "Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery" option as in the image below.

Click the yellow "Go" button and you will be brought to the log-in page for the interlibrary loan/document delivery system.  Enter your HawkID and password to continue.

The first time that you login to the system, you will be asked to fill out some information about yourself.  Once you have done this, return to InfoLink and hit the yellow "Go" button again.

You will then be brought to the ILL Form, which should have the article information entered.  Do a quick check of the information, and then click "Submit Request" at the bottom of the screen.

Your request is now in progress and you will receive an email when it is ready for you to pick up or download.

2. Request an interlibrary loan/document delivery without using InfoLink

To request an interlibrary loan directly, go to http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/hardin/illa and login with your HawkID and password.  The first time that you use the interlibrary loan/document delivery system, you will be asked to fill out some information about yourself.

From the left-hand side of the window, select the type of resource that you are requesting.

Next, you will be asked to fill out the request form.  Enter as much information as you know about the resource.  The more information you provide, the faster we can find and request the item.

Once you have entered the information, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Submit Request." Your request is now in progress and you will receive an email when it is ready for you to pick up or download.
