Welcome!

This is a summary of selected original research, literature reviews, and reports on the complex topic of hospital noise. It was prepared by Mindy Egeland, UIHC Patients' Librarian and Jennifer Deberg, Hardin Library Clinical Education Librarian.

The intent of this guide is to provide the interested reader with a summary of published evidence regarding how hospital noise impacts patient satsifation. A second aim is to summarize the research on interventions that have been most successful.

Abstracts, or portions of abstracts, are provided when available as well as direct links to articles available in electronic format from the UI Libraries. If you are not affiliated with the University of Iowa, you will be able to view citations and abstracts only. If you are affiliated and attempting to access full text  from off-campus, you will be prompted to authenticate with hawk id and password.
